Maintenance Guide For Wefts & Tapes – Do’s & Don’ts
DOs
Warranty Notice: Melissa Jade Hair is only covered under warranty if maintained using the Melissa Jade Hair Care product range.
Washing Tips:
- Focus shampoo on your natural scalp – avoid scrubbing extensions.

Apply conditioner from mid-lengths to ends, never at the roots or near the bonds.
Treatments: Use regular conditioning or protein-free treatments to maintain softness and manageability.
Drying: Always dry your natural hair and around the bonds completely to prevent weakening. Use a hairdryer on low to medium heat.
Daily Care:
- Apply a serum daily to keep hair hydrated.

Brush daily with a recommended hair extension brush to avoid tangling.

Always use a heat protectant spray before styling with heat tools.
Swimming:
- Style hair in a loose plait before swimming—avoid buns or top knots.

Rinse hair immediately after exposure to chlorine or saltwater.
Sleeping:
- Tie hair in a loose braid or plait at bedtime.

Sleep on a silk pillowcase or use a silk bonnet to minimise friction.
Post-Application: For the first week after application, wear extensions in low ponytails or low styles only to allow them to settle.
Regular Maintenance:
- Tape Extensions: Every 4–6 weeks

Weft Extensions: Every 6–8 weeks
These timelines help protect your natural hair and maintain optimal extension condition.
DONT'S
Avoid Using:
- Low-quality shampoos and conditioners with protein (milk, wheat, soy, keratin), sulphates, or high alcohol content.

Oil-based products near the bonds—they cause slippage.
Application Errors to Avoid:
- Never apply conditioner at the root or bond area.

Do not wash or brush hair upside down – this causes tangling and stress on the bonds.
Chemical Treatments:
- Never bleach hair extensions.

You may use semi-permanent dye only to darken or maintain a similar shade.
Styling & Heat:
- Do NOT apply a straightener or curling iron directly to the bonds – this can cause them to break.
Sleeping & Washing:
- Never sleep with wet hair.

Avoid washing your hair for 48–72 hours after tape extension application.
Sunscreen Warning for Blondes:
- Avoid sunscreens with Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) and Octocrylene – they can turn blonde extensions peachy.

Only use mineral-based sunscreen.
